Erasto Kibirango has been sworn in as Chairperson of Luweero District for a second term, pledging to serve all residents regardless of political affiliation and prioritise agriculture, livestock farming, and road rehabilitation during his new term in office.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected district leaders was held at Kosovo Grounds in Kasana, Luweero and presided over by Chief Magistrate Esther Adikin.
Kibirango took oath together with 37 councillors representing 18 sub-counties and town councils across the district, including Luweero, Kikyusa, Bamunanika, Busiika, Kalagala, Kamira, and Zirobwe, as well as representatives of special interest groups.
Following the ceremony, councillors elected Yusuf Majimbi, a councillor from Kikyusa Town Council affiliated to the National Unity Platform, as district speaker unopposed after Viola Nanteza of the National Resistance Movement withdrew from the race. Nanteza was later appointed Vice Chairperson.
Kibirango also unveiled members of his executive committee, saying they would work together without political divisions.
The committee includes Issa Nsubuga in charge of production, Ahmed Kasibante for finance, and Christine Nalugo responsible for health and education.
Speaking shortly after taking oath, Kibirango pledged inclusive leadership and promised to focus on service delivery.
“I want to assure the people of Luweero that we are going to serve them without segregation based on political parties. Our focus now is unity and development,” he said.
He added that improving roads and supporting farmers would remain key priorities during his second term.
“We are going to put much emphasis on agriculture, livestock farming and rehabilitation of roads so that farmers can easily transport their produce to markets,” he said.
State Minister for the Luweero Triangle Alice Kaboyo urged district leaders to avoid political divisions and focus on development priorities.
“This is the time for leaders to put politics aside and work closely with government officials to ensure service delivery and development for the people of Luweero,” she said.
The ceremony was attended by religious leaders led by Bishop George Wilson Sekaggo of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, politicians including Commissioner James Kinobe, and hundreds of residents from across the district.
